Need some help with SonicSwap?

SonicSwap is the first personalized music video channel and playlist sharing site built directly off your iTune music collection. With the help of our members, we've become the fastest growing collection of playlists available on the internet. Now you and your friends see your favorite music and playlists anywhere using the SonicSwap music video playlist viewer. Your playlists say more about your personality and taste in music than just a stream of tracks. You build playlists that fit your life. They tell people what you listen to, how you listen to it, what you've recently added, and what your favorites are.

Our FAQs

Is this legal?

This is completely legal, because it is not file sharing, it is playlist sharing. We only upload information about the songs in your library and playlists. No music is uploaded from your computer. We find and play music videos posted on the web for each of your tracks. If we can't find a video, we'll try to at least find a 30 second sound sample.

What does this service cost?

Nothing – SonicSwap and the plug-in are free. So your next question might be: "How do you pay for all the equipment to support this service?" We make our money from Apple and Amazon when you click through to buy.

Is the plug-in spyware?

No, The plug-in sends information about what you are listening to up and your playlist data to the SonicSwap servers. No other information is uploaded, and you can easily turn off this updating feature of the plug-in whenever you want.

Why would I want the plug-in?

The plug-in automatically keeps your SonicSwap account in sync with your iTunes music and playlists. Any playlist posted on SonicSwap will automatically be updated when it changes in iTunes. (Even your smart playlists.)

I signed up and downloaded the plug-in, but my playlists and library have not appeared yet in my SonicSwap account. How do I fix this?

The plug-in should have automatically updated your SonicSwap account. We process your playlist and library information as you are uploading the data. If you don't see your account updated then try using the Sync with SonicSwap command in the plug-in. Make sure you check the username and password in your preference settings for the plugin. If these are wrong - we can't process the data. You can also use the java applet on the Upload Playlist page - again make sure you put in your username and password, or it will just come back and ignore the upload.

How is my profile's favorite music tag cloud built?

We analyze your iTunes collection for all the tracks you've played over the last 90 days. We then compile a list of your favorite artists based on those tracks. If you just reloaded iTunes, and all your tracks have a playcount of zero, your tag cloud is going to be rather boring because we have no playcount info to calculate favorites. Plug in your iPod and the playcount from your iPod tracks will be added to your iTunes total playcount.

There are some artists that I don't want listed on my tag cloud that I really don't like anymore. - How do I change it?

Remember that we build this tag cloud based on playcount. Reset the playcount and the artist drops off. In iTunes - Select the tracks for the artist you would like to delete - right click on the tracks and select Reset playcount. This resets the playcount back to zero. Then update your SonicSwap account and the artist will disappear.

How can I control what other people see about me?

Click on edit profile from your member profile and you can set the privacy features of SonicSwap. You control what people see. If you want to keep your music collection and playlists private, you can. Email and AIM addresses and even you name can be hidden. You can be as anonymous as you like.

How do I edit my user profile and add a picture.

After you login, click on the edit profile link when looking at your profile. There you can add a picture and set up your account and what you want people to see. The picture should not be bigger than 40K, and it should be in .jpg or .gif format.

I uploaded a new user picture, but I still see the old one in my account.

Try refreshing your browser several times or "flushing your browser cache" Sometimes browsers store images to speed up websurfing.

Can I change my username?

Yes, just create a new SonicSwap account, and don't forget to add your new username to the plug-in's preference panel and update your account.

How do I change my password?

Click on the 'edit profile' link when you are viewing your profile.

I've forgotten my password how do I get it sent to me?

Click on the "Forgot my password" link on the log in page and we will email it to you. Now if you signed up with a bogus email address - I guess you will need to send an email to support At SonicSwap Dot Com and we will dig it up for you.

Can I hide what I am currently playing?

Both the preference settings in the plug-in and your edit profile page can turn off all your now playing boxes – even the ones you have on mySpace. So if you have the urge to listen to Backstreet Boys or John Denver and don't want your friends to know this dirty little secret, you can temporarily shut off this feature.

Why aren't my Recently Played tracks up to date?

Whenever you want to update your top tracks played or recently played, just tell the plug-in to Sync with SonicSwap. If your now playing boxes are not showing what you are listening to, make sure the plug-in is running, and that you have set your profile to show what you are listening to.

How can I delete my tracks data and playlists from SonicSwap? and can I delete my account?

Tracks information, your library, and playlists can be deleted. Send us an email to support At SonicSwap Dot com. We can purge the playlist data and any personal info from our system for you. Please do us a favor before you cancel your account and just let us know what we could have done better for you.

Can I use SonicSwap to track a friend's music?

Sure, check out your friend's smart playlists. The recently added and recently played will tell you what your friends are into right now.
